Dan Madler serves as Chief Executive Officer of Beyond Shelter, Inc., a mission-driven nonprofit affordable housing developer based in Fargo, North Dakota, focused on Impacting Lives through the Power of Housing. With more than 33 years of experience in affordable housing and community development, Dan provides executive leadership, organizational direction, and operational oversight for Beyond Shelter’s housing development, financial management, compliance, asset management, partnerships, and long-term strategic priorities.

Since joining Beyond Shelter in March 2003 as the organization’s first full-time employee, Dan has played a key leadership role in helping the organization grow its development capacity and expand its regional impact. During his tenure, Beyond Shelter has developed more than 1,800 affordable homes across North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota, including senior housing, family housing, supportive housing, preservation, rehabilitation, new construction, rural housing, homeownership, and community revitalization initiatives.

Dan’s work is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves a quality, affordable place to call home and that safe, stable housing is foundational to positive life outcomes for individuals and families.

In addition to his role at Beyond Shelter, Dan has served in a variety of board, advisory, and community leadership roles. He is a former Chair, Vice Chair, and Advisory Council Member of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines Affordable Housing Advisory Council.

Dan currently serves as a member of the Community Advisory Board overseeing Old National Bancorp’s 5-Year Community Growth Plan, as a Board Member and Immediate Past President of CENTRE, Inc., and as Secretary of the Cass County Human Service Zone Board.

Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Economics from North Dakota State University. He is also a Housing Development Finance Professional certified by the National Development Council and has completed additional training in strategic management for CHDO executives, nonprofit administration, and regional leadership development.
